3 Months Old Motor Milestones – Where Should My Baby Be?
Mama you made it! Your beautiful bundle of joy is now 3 months old. In this blog I am going to help you to know what to look out for to ensure your baby is developing just right. We will be chatting all things motor, sensory, communication and play!
Remember that each child is unique, and this serves as a guide to help you understand your child’s development. Should you be worried about anything make sure to contact your pediatrician or local OT for advice!

When you hear the words “motor milestones” used by any health care professional they are referring to your baby’s physical development and certain skills that we expect a child at a certain age to have developed. 3 months serves as an important age for your baby to have met certain skills.
Typical Milestones
- When your baby is lying on his tummy and enjoying his daily tummy time, he/she should be able to lift and hold his/her head to see a toy placed in front.
- Your baby should be able to roll from their back to their side! Don’t yet expect your baby to easily roll from their back to their belly. Be patient mama, rolling is hard work!
- When lying on their backs your baby should enjoy bringing their hands to their mouths and moving their arms and legs when excited.
Some red flags to look out for
- If your baby finds it difficult to lift their head
- Stiff arms and legs with little or no movement
- Pushing back when lying on their back.
How to stimulate my 3-month-olds motor milestones
- Lots and lots of tummy time! Blog post all about this amazing topic coming soon!
- Present toys to the baby in the middle of their body to encourage bringing their arms to their middle.
- Gently clap your babies’ hands together whilst singing a song.
And there you have it mamas! Always remember that each child develops differently, so there is no need to panic if you’re little one isn’t 100% there yet. Remember to get in touch with your healthcare provider or occupational therapist if you have any concerns.
