Description
What Is Hydrolysed Gelatin?
Gelatin is essentially heated up collagen found in the bones and skin of animals. Remember grandma’s winter, heart-warming soups? Remember the jelly-like substance that floated to the top of the soup pot? That was the gelatin formed from the boiling of the bones. When this collagen is heated it destroys the helical 3D structure. With the added process of hydrolysis it produces a water-soluble multi-peptide polymer Gelatin. This Hydrolysed Gelatin is extremely well absorbed and utilised by the body, as essentially, the body recognises it as a food in the form of protein. Gelatin is 98-99% protein.
Gelatin has been shown to have numerous health and beauty benefits due to its unique protein amino acid make-up. It contains all the amino acids, except for one – L-Tryptophan. The most abundant amino acid found in Gelatin is L-Glycine. There are also high amounts of L-Proline, L-Valine, Hydroxyproline and Glutamic Acid. It also contains a unique substance called Chondroitin which plays an integral part in joint mobility and health.
Why Hydrolysed Gelatin?
The process of hydrolysis enables the gelatin molecules to become water-soluble and no longer a jelly-like substance. This allows for superior absorption and assimilation by the body.
